This is Diddy. Yesterday was an important day in Congo. It is was International Women’s Day, which have a very special significance for us, especially in North Kivu, where we have yet to experience the peace that we have been hoping for all these years.
Our mothers, wives and daughters organized a March through Rumangabo and into the village.
The March was organised by Madame Virginie Munyaga, who is also the Treasurer for the Southern Sector of the Virunga National Park. She is very educated and respected in Rumangabo. Madame Virginie made a very strong statement to the population. It was a statement of protest to all those who were involved in rape and other forms of brutality against women. She also condemned those that were destroying their children’s future by destroying the forest for charcoal and killing the gorillas.
Madame Virginie, giving her speech yesterday
Children were part of the march - we hope that they will not live through what we have had to endure.

Like many i will never know or truly understand the horrors that have and continue happen in your beautiful country, there is much that needs to change and i hope that one day soon that all the hurt and pain that you and your people and of course the Gorillas have suffered shall be nothing more than a distant memory, Madame Virginie is a brave strong woman, you are all in my thoughts.

Congratulations to the woman and Madame Virginie on their March through Rumangabo and into the village. They are very brave and wonderful. Lisa
I hope her message that the children need a better future goes far and wide in your country!
Dear Diddy and Innocent, I have just learned from Ranger Atamato at his blog, that one of his comrades, Ranger Kalibumba, 36, has been viciously killed by a member of the Congolese Militia. I don’t know if either of you personally knew him, but please accept my deepest condolences, for all the rangers are brothers and part of our family.
I am awed and inspired by visionaries like Mme. Virginie. God bless the beautiful, courageous women of Congo. And bless you Diddy for reporting on this.
She sounds very courageous. I hope the right people are listening and that education helps the next generation of your beautiful children to know peace and prosperity.
A great story and photo of Madame Virginie! Her speech must have been quite an inspiration.
Thanks for sharing it, Diddy.
A brave lady. One of many voices around this world that must make a difference,
I and all at G4G applaud her.
