I was driving on the road through Rwindi the other day and had to stop because the road was blocked by a large herd of antelope. They were a species known as Ugandan Kob, which we now see more and more on the savannah plains of the central sector of the park just south from Lake Edward. (see map)
It was great to see the kob in their hundreds despite the heavy poaching the park has experienced in the last few years. Emmanuel also drove through Rwindi not long ago and says he saw an even bigger herd numbering in the thousands. It is nice have some good news for a change!

Finally some good news Innocent! Thank you! Just as a heads up everyone Rwindi is where all the military were evacuated from at the beginning of September. http://gorillacd.org/2008/09/03/over-1000-congolese-troops-leave-virunga-for-good/
It used to be this amazing park station where anyone who was anyone would come and visit to see the herds of wildlife. Remember we posted that Mobutu also had a house there…
That is pleasure of seeing such beautiful images. Thank you Innocent for this sending. This herd of Kob of Uganda is impressive. Provided that the poachers do not see them….
Thanks, Innocent! How beautiful! Iris
