My Family Has Been Attacked In Their Home

24 Oct 2008 Filed under (My Family) by Innocent Mburanumwe @ 4:15 pm

I have just spoken to my father, Silvestre, also a Ranger here in Virunga. He lives with my mother and my little sisters in the town of Rutshuru, about 30 mins north of Rumangabo. Armed bandits just came into the house and stole everything - mattresses, clothes, food, kitchen utensils. Absolutely everything.

The neighbors also got attacked. But the worst thing is that the attackers beat up my mother and she is now in hospital in Rutshuru. I will be going tomorrow morning to see how they are doing.

Unfortunately we live in a country where armed bandits get away with mugging and robbing and terrorizing innocent people. It makes me very sad. I will let you know soon how my family is doing.

Innocent, I am so sorry and saddend to hear this news. Your poor Mother and family. Please know that my thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. It just makes me so angry, that these thugs will probably never be caught. If they are caught, I hope they get the maximum punishment. I hope your Mother is able to make a full recovery. Lisa

I hope that your mother will be able to be restored quickly. For the flights made on furniture… that can be replaced… But it is certain these gangsters deserve to be punished. My friendships and my wishes of cure to your mom. A good amity from France.

Innocent, I’m sorry and horrified to hear that your family was attacked. Please extend my best wishes to your mother for a speedy recovery. Do you think this was a random attack, or was your family targeted because your father is also a ranger? Please be safe and take care of your family.

This is not a forum for racist comments Terry Lee. Please keep your ignorant thoughts to yourself.
Innocent, please know that there are people in the world who care about what is going on in Congo and the terrible things that families such as yours are going through. The rangers are so important in protecting the last remaining gorillas and it is a courageous job. Your family and country are in my thoughts.
