Why Diddy’s Family Had to Escape (Warning: Graphic Picture)

15 Nov 2008 Filed under (Humanitarian Situation, My Family) by Pierre @ 4:32 pm

You may remember that both Augustin’s and Diddy’s families had to evacuate the hostilities in Kiwanja last week. It has since emerged that the rebels there probably committed war crimes, executing dozens of un-armed civilians. This has been widely reported in the press and is being investigated by the UN.

This morning Diddy bumped into one of his neighbours in Goma. He owns a car and sometimes works as a driver for visiting journalists.  The neighbour told Diddy that he had gone to Kiwanja after the attacks and went to a house in which lay the bodies of 6 young men.

He took a photo of the horrific scene. I have blurred the picture below, but you can click on it to see it unedited if you can stomach it.

I know that it is very difficult to look at, but I feel it is important that we understand the reality of what is happening here and realise the dangers facing the Rangers and their families.

Your continued support is crucial to keep them out of harm’s way.

In Rwindi, the situation continues to be very difficult. This afternoon we were able to negotiate a UN escort there, so two trucks are on their way there right now to pick up the 10 Rangers and families who were left behind. If it all goes well, they should make it back tomorrow to the refugee camp in Goma.

This is terrifying, I’m so sorry you’re going through it, please stay safe and let us keep pressuring our leaders to do something about this situation. Too much innocent blood has already been shed.

I don’t manage to understand how human beings manage to make such acts. There is no word to qualify these atrocities. I am very sad and furious in front of this.

It has been reported that in KIwanja the killing of civilians began when mai mai entered the town and began killing Nkundas supporters after the main battle in which Nkunda had defeated the gov troops .When this killing began Nkundas forces who had previously captured the town {without murdering lots of civilians] and then left it , entered it again to prevent the executions and were forced to find the civilian clothed , ununiformed but militarily organized mai mai who were hiding amongst the civilian population Some say the mai mai were not hiding amongst the population but ran back to the bush after murdering Nkundas supporters leaving the civilian population to take the blame for the murders. Lets be fair .There appears to be lots of blame to go around and once again it seems to be the government side which loses the battles and initiates the murder of civilians while Nkunda seems to have removed his men from the town after winning the initial conflict between the armys to prevent the civilian population being harmed Who knows what happened there after Nkundas forces entered the town to find their local supporters murdered in their homes but I am sure that Nkundas mean are awfully tired of people entering civilian centers and hollering kill all the tutsis

There have ben previous reports of six bodies in a hut in kiwanja who ad all been killed by spears by someone who they implied had wanted to save bullets. It seems likely CNDP have lots of bullets right now . What are we looking at here.?????? I see no obvious bullet holes round about or in the bodys? hmmmm this could be a very important photo to have published

Too many lives lost, too much bloodshed. When will this end? It’s sickening and infuriating. Why can’t this be stopped?

I wish the Rwindi rangers a safe trip and hope to read the good news of their arrival in Goma tomorrow. Take care, all of you. Iris

    obasanjo seems a very well chosen envoy. He is a general and appears to appreciate the humanitarian efforts of Nkunda specifically his failure to grab a military plum when he could have easily done so last week { i.e. taken goma} for humanitarian reasons.(Nkunda didnt want the city full of military in order to avoid panic, flight ,and murder such as is pictured above.} although it would have benefited his military situation to have done so}

I see general babacar gaye {senegal} met with general Gabriel Amisi {drc} today. Babacar doesnt seem like much. he refers to murders such as those above as “excesses” I am pretty sure general amisi is the guy who is supposed to have been at the bridge in kisangani when the sixty stiffs were turfed off of it during the rcd mutiny. I suspect the recent spaniard general [whats his name] who replaced babacar but quit as head of monuc after a couple of weeks was right in quitting [babacar was then brought back ]
I suspect Babacar of having really having mucked things up by thoughtlessly taking sides Maybe he doesnt like to read too much he is a soldier after all. why do we have soldiers making policy ?it is like using a hammer to open a can of beans. Wrong tool for the job I would say…

The images of these dead are blurred but they dont want to remain anonymous they want us to know who killed them.according to newsclip”I played piano for Nkunda” Nkunda was some miles away giving an interview at the exact time of these deaths if he was not there which of his commanders were. Or perhaps they were killed by Mai Mai. These dead boys wish we wouldnt turn away and blurr their stories as their images are blurred. they want you who are there on the spot to find out what happened to these exact six young men who look like my own sons. Tell us their names and we will find out the rest.

That’s enough, “mike crowe.” That’s enough spam on this blog about your pro-Nkunda agenda. Take it somewhere else, perhaps somewhere the readers are naive enough to buy the snake oil you’re selling. We’re NOT buying it, because some of us have been supporting the gorilla rangers for a long time and we’re entirely aware and educated on the conflicts in DRC.

Your posts are nothing more than Nkunda propaganda and WE DON’T CARE. Get lost.

Sheryl, I know how you feel, but don’t get upset, it’s not worth it: the thousands who support this cause are certain of the dedication, courage and integrity of the people who form this team. Blogs like his won’t change that. All the best, Iris

  12. lisah lisah Says: 17 Nov 2008

Bottom line is, this is certainly NO place for any kind of propaganda. We are here to support the Rangers and the hard work they do trying to protect Virunga National Park and it’s wildlife. I can read the news for myself and form my own opinions about what I believe to be happening. It is also my opinion, that this conflict is far too complex and dangerous for me want to talk about it here. The only reason I am here is to support the Rangers, the wildlife, and the ordinary people struggling through this horrible ordeal.

  13. Christine C. Christine C. Says: 17 Nov 2008

Every day I thank God for keeping our rangers and their families safe…this is such a horrible picture and truly drives home the horrific nature of what is happening in DRC. Please sent my best to Innocent and Diddy…

  14. mike crowe mike crowe Says: 18 Nov 2008

who i support is the gorillas i think the rangers ought to accept Nkundas offer to co-patol to protect them The odds are probably about fifty fifty that as nkunda is a once and maybe a future general in the drc. In two months these rangers may be saluting him again. stop taking sides i would also give it about a fifty fifty chance these dead boys at the top of the page were killed by his men rather than the mai mai but no more than that . I bet they would like to be identified , I would very much like to see Nkunda pressured rather than alienated as he is important to the future of virunga I will try to be impartial and not to drink the Nkunda lemonade

  15. mike crowe mike crowe Says: 18 Nov 2008

the blurb along with the picture quotes the un as reporting rebel atrocities in kiwanja when that communique also reported mai mai killings

Mike Crowe, porque no te callas?

  17. mike crowe mike crowe Says: 18 Nov 2008

the map of the congo is about to stabilize, Nkundas is pulling well back and trying to establish un controlled zones between the combatants I am not sure of my geography but it seems at least some of the park may be in the un zone I wonder if a larger part of the park or all of it could be included in the un zone if the correct people were approached at the moment I wonder if the people who make the decisions for the rangers would allow them to head back to their bases under Nkundas protection{ I believe he offered this some months ago. I wonder if anymore information will be forthcoming on who killed the boys in the picture. You who are there do you think it was Nkunda? I wonder how many gorillas are left?

  18. mike crowe mike crowe Says: 19 Nov 2008

Its funny how things play out sometimes.General Gabriel Amisi drc land forces commander seems likely to meet Laurent Nkunda again soon He will meet his chief of staff tomorrow. They have met before at the Tshobe bridge where General Nkunda [and Amisi ] have been accused of being the ranking officors on the spot imediately before sixty mutineers were shot there and elsewhere and disposed of in the river; {The dead were later found.} They were on the same side back then and may well be again next month. . this is the basis of one of the war crimes against Nkunda. It is odd that it is his compatriot in the crime who has been trying to bring him to “justice” It kind of reminds me of Pat Garrett going after billy the kid

  19. mike crowe mike crowe Says: 19 Nov 2008

The generals amisi and kunda may actually be the best of a bad bunch, the other rcd leader from back then we hear about today is bemba, and he gets heckled in parliament on account of having eaten pygmies,He is the leader of the opposition in parliament I hope nobody is eating the pygmies now.
