On 28th November we blogged about the Rangers from Lulimbi (near Ishasha) being forced to flee into Uganda to escape the fighting. Well last week I accompanied Emmanuel to visit the 71 Rangers and their families who hid for over 5 days in the forest before making it over to Uganda.
Rangers were living under very basic shelter.
And the women were doing what they could to cook.
It was a difficult sight, as these are my colleagues and friends.
Emmanuel addressed the Rangers, and explained that we are seeking to re-locate them to Kiwanja, just north of Rutshuru, where it will be easier to support them.
You can see some of the families here. Just behind the buildings is where the border of Congo starts.
Each Ranger received $80 and rations, including beans, oil and cornflour. This was distributed thanks to your donations.
We will keep you updated on our Rangers. For now there are still about 30 at Bulengo who are from the Kabirizi/Rwindi area. About 150 are at Rumangabo HQ, and Rangers have now been deployed to all 5 patrol posts in the Gorilla Sector: Bukima, Bikenge (about 20 doing the gorilla census), Jomba, Gatovu and Kibumba.

Best of luck for the transfer to Kiwanja. Everyone at Lulimbi must have had such a scary week or more. Hope they can settled safely, as best they can soon.
Hello Balemba, it is terribly sad to see the rangers and their families living under such conditions. I hope their transfer to Kiwanja will go smoothly and that soon they will be able to return to their homes. I cannot but rail against the unfairness of it all… Iris
To see families living under such conditions breaks my heart. Thank God they have been given some rations. I pray the transfer will go smoothly and all stay safe. Hopefully they will return home soon. This makes me so angry and sad. Why can’t humans live peacefully with each other?
More important is their life.. i know.it will be better for all peoples in Congo. here in my country Venezuela.. we says… ” it dont have bad tings, that stay for 100 years. and body that suport it… well i hope you understand..
Hello Balemba, Thank you for this update on the Rangers and their families. I’m thankful you were able to get them some rations. And hopefull that their relocation to Kiwanja goes without incident. Do you guys know what the situation in Lulimbi is or when these Rangers and their families might get to go home and get back to work? I start my new job at Children’s Hosptial Los Angeles in January and hoping to be able to start making some good donations soon thereafter. For now, things are really tight for my family, but I remain constantly supportive in thought and spriit. : )
¡Hola Betty! I lived in Venezuela for many years, in Las Morochas near Maracaibo. What a country for seeing wildlife! Can you please tell me how the saying goes in Spanish? Gracias, Iris
