On 28th October we launched an appeal for $88,694 for the Rangers of Virunga following the outbreak of war that forced Rangers to flee the park in unprecedented conditions.

The response to the crisis has been overwhelming from you all and I should like to thank each of you who has donated toward our work so far, and supported us in other ways.

It has been a challenging past 6 weeks, but who would have thought at the end of October that come mid-December we would be into the 3rd week of the Mountain Gorilla Census.

Your donations have been used to support the almost 300 Rangers who were displaced near Goma with rations, water, sanitation and medical supplies. Since we re-entered the Gorilla Sector on 21 November we have been using donations to support the Rangers in the patrols with rations and vital equipment, including logistical support.

This support - with the assistance of other organizations here - has been vital to our progress on the ground.

The challenges are far from over. We still have almost 100 displaced Rangers and their families. We are still struggling to pay salaries for the Rangers. We are still lacking in equipment and supplies. But the support we receive from you on this blog - financially and morally - goes a long way to making our job easier.

Here we have listed the first name and donation amount of all donations since 25 October up to and including 13 December, in alphabetical order. These are the donations made online via Paypal and do not include the check donations. We still need over $35,000 to reach our target.

Another reason for listing the donations like this is that when we first launched the site many of you did not realize you had to be signed in to gorilla.cd for your donation to register.
