Videoing Miza

14 Dec 2008 Filed under (Kabirizi Family, Successes) by Diddy @ 10:59 am

I know many of you have been asking about Mutazimiza, or Miza for short. Well she is pretty shy and so it is difficult to take photos or video of her. Finally, the other day we succeeded! She is on the left of the picture and playing with other gorillas in the Kabirizi family.

Hasn’t she grown?

In the last census in August 2007 the Kabirizi family numbered 31 individuals, including Kabirizi himself. So far, as of today and after over 12 visits to the family, there are 33 individuals in the group. In the last 15 months there have been:

5 births - yet to be named

1 new female has migrated to the group - yet to be named

2 - Bonane and Gashangi - have migrated to the Humba family

2 - Kangugo and Gasusa - are still missing but we hope to find them in another of the habituated families in coming days. They are of course siblings and siblings often stick together… We will keep you posted as events unfold.

Good news is that Innocent is back at work. He got to Rumangabo yesterday and I expect him up here at Bukima later on today!

Also - if you wish to make a holiday donation to a friend or a member of your family for the gorillas you can click on the donation item on the right! They will receive a Gorilla Card in the mail.

Hello Diddy, wonderful post, as usual. Miza obviously is special to you all, any particular reason why? Please tell Innocent that I’m happy he is well and on his way back to Bukima. Take care, Iris

Hey Diddy! Thanks for taking the time to find and video Miza for us. She’s huge compared to the last photos of her! And she’s an international star now.

Very glad to hear Innocent is back on the job. Hope he’s feeling much, much better.

Hello Diddy, I watched the charming video of shy Miza again since a friend emailed me the link http://www.amazon.com/Looking-Miza-Juliana-Hatkoff/dp/0545085403 and I remembered why she is special. The book is now on my Christmas shopping list. Iris
