We should like to thank the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust on Jersey (one of the Channel Islands off the coast of the UK) for a donation of £6,600 (just under $10,000). The Trust launched an appeal over a year ago for Virunga’s mountain gorillas following the July 2007 massacre - and surprised us at the beginning of January with this generous donation.
The appeal was named after Ya Pili, a 4-year old western lowland gorilla who died at the Trust after a sudden illness.
Ya Pili in the prime of life…
As a result the Trust - formerly known as Jersey Zoo - set up a collection box next to the gorilla enclosure and visitors to Durrell have been donating ever since… and continue to do so.
The Trust, through this display, has managed to raise awareness of the plight of Virunga’s mountain gorillas.
Many thanks on behalf of Virunga.

Thank you Richard and everyone in Durrell for all your efforts! In memory of Ya Pili, we will never forget his story.
What a beautiuful way to remember and honor Ya Pili. I want a little display station just like that right outside my house…….hmmm. I might have to seriously start thinking about this. Way to go Durrell!
Let me add my thanks to the Trust.
