We haven’t had any luck yet in finding Munyaga, but we are finding a lot of snares in this area of the Gorilla Sector. It is clear that local poachers have taken advantage of our absence during 2008 and laid out hundreds of snares to catch antelope and buffalo. These snares are a terrible threat to the mountain gorillas and we will continue to search and destroy them.
An Antelope Snare
I dismantle a snare we found near our camp.
The Munyaga Group may be somewhere in this vast forest.

Wow! What an adventure…. to wander in to that vastness. We are so grateful you’re there to dismantle those horrid snares! (So are the Gorillas).
Great work dismantling those snares. I hope your search for the Munyaga Group yields positive results. : ) Continued luck! : )
Thank you for destroying those horrible snares Innocent. Thank goodness you are all back in the area and the poachers will now know it. I am optimistic you will find the Munyaga group and wish you continued good luck.
