New Features on gorillacd.org for Facebook Integration and Protect the Park

We have just released several new features on gorilla.cd.  This has been the most significant effort since site launch last October, so we look forward to hearing your comments and feedback.

Multiple tools to help Virunga Friends spread the word in the Facebook community are now online.  These include:

1)      “Donate your status” – this feature allows you to link gorilla.cd from your Facebook status, hence giving the chance to all your friends to click the link and visit the site;

2)      “Publish our campaign on your Facebook profile” – this allows you to publish the donation barometer and link to a campaign on your Facebook profile;

3)      “Invite you friends to the gorilla.cd community” – allowing you to send a gorilla.cd invitation to some or all of your Facebook friends.

Also, the Facebook cause - which now has more than 70,000 members and has raised more than $9.000 - can now be joined directly from the website.

Furthermore, we have added a map of Virunga (specifically the Gorilla Sector) and will be enriching it with pictures and videos from the forest. We will place these photos and videos exactly in the plot where they were taken. Click on the picture link below to see more!

On this map, you can now become a Virunga Guardian and personally protect a 30-acre area of Virunga National Park.  In order to do this, choose an area in the Gorilla Sector by clicking on an empty plot and make your donation.

The “My Virunga” area is now completely changed on the site, as it contains a real cockpit to help you protect the park. Donating is only a small part of what you can do to help Virunga: share blog posts, share our pictures, email your friends, donate your Instant Messenger status, link us from your website - all these things help us immensely.

Finally, all the actions you take will be tracked in your personal profile and visible to the entire community.

We strive to build a website that connects caring individuals around the world with the animals and community of Virunga National Park. These changes that we have implemented today aim to empower our Friends across the world. We hope you will welcome the new functionalities and make the most of them.

    Interesting new additions to the site, Alberto. I do miss what the various donations are for on the Recent Donations list. I think it is fascinating what people choose to donate for and it sometimes can inspire others to donate. Everything listed as Open Donations of Multiple Items is a bit dull so to speak.

    Hello Brenton, that was not done on purpose, thank you for signalling it to us… That’s an old bug that we fixed a while ago; for some reason - while moving to production the new features - we must have reactivated some old file… we will fix it by end of day. Thank you! alberto
