Yesterday I went along with the tracking team following the Kabirizi Group. Since the Rangers were wearing geo-tagging gear for our Protect the Park program, we were able to map out our path through the forest:
We entered the forest from the west and soon found fresh signs, such as the left-overs of a gorilla snack of bamboo shoots:
We then found the site where the group had spent the night, with nests like this one:
And after some weaving around following their tracks, we found the gorillas themselves, all at rest and relaxed enough to let me take some portraits:
Ruzuzi (Ndakasi’s older brother)
Kabwana (named after Ranger Louis Kabwana)
