I am at Rumangabo, the HQ of Virunga National Park, and have just come up from the Senkwekwe Centre which is progressing well - THANKS TO YOUR DONATIONS.
I cannot emphasize enough that we are building brick by brick, by brick, by brick… thanks to you all.
Now I am usually loathe to put photos of myself on this blog - but today I shall make an exception. I really wanted you all to get an idea of the construction, and the size of the bricks. The bricks are made in situ with a machine that we blogged about last week. It is about a dollar a brick…
There you have it…
It has been raining a lot in the last 3 weeks, but despite this we are managing to make progress.
The wall you see in this photo is the perimeter wall for the 1 hectare (2.5 acre) plot. Remember Emmanuel talked about a smaller 40 x 40 meter plot within this that we are trying to complete that Ndeze and Ndakasi will be able to move into hopefully very soon. That is a quarantine area of sorts.
And finally, on Saturday in the What’s for lunch? post I translated “poireau” as pepper, when it is in fact leak. Thank you Jean Luc for gallantly not leaving that comment! I am not sure if gorillas eat pepper - I doubt it.
Thank you again everyone - the donations are ticking over and we are gradually inching toward our target.
Remember that each dollar you give is matched by the UN Foundation. So please help us double your money!
