Protecting the Mountain Gorillas of Virunga
Thank you for the electric fence!
Today we reached full funding for repair of the electric fence for the orphan gorilla enclosure. More than seventy of you made this happen and we are so very grateful.
In case you ever think that your donations don’t make a difference, let me list just a few things that have been accomplished or purchased for the park thanks in full or part to your donations (and trust me, there’s much more than listed here). I’m certain we don’t say thank-you enough.

- Senkwekwe Orphan Gorilla Center was built through your donations and matching funds
- An airplane for the park
- Mosquito nets for our rangers through web donations and the Thin Green Line
- Boots for our rangers
- Provide monthly support for rangers’ widows and children
- Sandbags to help protect rangers under attack
- Support for rangers through salary supplements, patrol rations, and medical kits
- Support for the briquette alternative-energy program
- Monthly support for the work of our rangers to guard the mountain gorillas through the “Guard a Gorilla” and “Protect the Park” programs
- Support for the bloodhound anti-poaching unit
- Provided funds for a major operation to help one of our rangers walk again
- Support toward a special elephant-protection unit.
- Helped with the emergency evacuation of all ranger families in July and the camp set up for them in Goma. Many partner organizations contributed as well.
There is so much more, and we could not do it all without your support. Thank you from everyone at the park!
