The warden of the central sector gave me a photo today that I’d like to share with you of ranger Paluku’s two children taken in June.
These children were made orphans when militia killed Paluku on a patrol on 25 October. Their mother died 6 months earlier while giving birth to Paluku’s second child, a boy. Paluku’s daughter, Grace, fainted and ended up in the hospital for two days after she heard the news of her father’s death.
We are still trying to reach the goal of providing $1200 to the families of the two Virunga staff who died that day, plus enough to guarantee $50 a month for the next five years. This will make a major difference in the lives of these two children and the relatives who have taken them in. Paluku’s younger brother and wife, who already have eight children of their own, will now be raising two more. They could really use your help.
If you would like to help these children have a better future, please use the donate box at the top right of this blog post for this emergency fund for the orphans and widow.
And a big thank you to the nearly 100 people who have already given so generously. We are grateful for your support.

Just personally-messaged several facebook-friends to please consider donating for this. Some of them will ignore it, of course, but you never know - some may give
So far I’ve got one snub, two “maybe”s and one “yes, of course”
