Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of assisting in the birth of the son of one of our rangers here in Rumangabo. Ranger Bahati Bavukahe’s wife Furaha came to my infirmary and gave birth at 11PM to a baby boy weighing 4.8 kilos (10.5 pounds). Both mother and child are doing fine.
African customs dictate that when a new chief is in the village when a baby is born, the child should be named after the chief. It is thus that the boy is now called “Demerode,” after our new Chief Warden Emmanuel de Merode.
Perhaps he will be Chief Warden one day too!
